The mass exodus out of Baltimore continues as the Ravens lose long time safety Ed Reed to free agency and the Houston Texans.

Although financial terms of Reed’s deal haven’t been released yet, CBS Sports speculates that Reed’s 2-year deal to average out to around $6 million per season.

Reed played his entire 11-year career in Baltimore, but the Ravens were simply not able to afford the $7.2 million base salary that they paid Reed last season.

It didn’t take a genius to figure that the Ravens were over-extending themselves when they made quarterback Joe Flacco one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the game.

It now appears that Flacco will have to play all the positions for the Ravens by himself, because the other members of the Super Bowl winning squad continue to make a B-Line out of Baltimore.

Elvis Dumervil Done in Denver – Maybe Not?

Elvis Dumervil is now one of the NFL’s top free agents, but only the Broncos and Ravens seem interested at this point.

Dumervil was released from the Broncos organization last week after a simple administrative error.

Now the Broncos have offered him a new contract, but he is waiting to see if he gets a better offer from someplace like Baltimore. The timing is NOT great for Dumervil because the NFL market has depreciated significantly for defensive ends. Dumervil, who may not have the opportunity to return to the Superbowl contending Broncos, has exhibited extreme frustration over the absurdity of the situation.

Dumervil registered 54 total tackles and 11 sacks last season for in one of league’s top defenses.

In the current NFL free agency market, most 3-4 and 4-3 based defenses would love to sign a player like Dumervil, but his current price tag may be just a bit too high.

Seahawks DB Richard Sherman Beats Drug Suspension on Technicality

DB – Richard Sherman –

It’s a great day for NFL players who use performance enhancing drugs and especially amphetamines.

Seahawks defensive back Richard Sherman never denied taking amphetamines, but appealed his four-game suspension because he insisted that the specimen collector made mistakes in the chain of evidence.

It’s good to know that players like Sherman never get conflicted by anything so meaningless as ethics. Sherman escaped a four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

Sherman wasted no time Tweeting his victory over the NFL’s drug enforcement efforts and fair play. Sherman will play Week 17 against the Rams with a smile on his face knowing he beat the system.
