Quarterback Russell Wilson Faces Stiff 49ers Defense

Fantasy owners have reason to worry against the Niners defense

Expected to be a top-10 quarterback heading into the season, Seattle’s Russell Wilson put up 320 passing yards and scored a touchdown to help the Seahawks squeak by the Carolina Panthers 12-7 on Week 1. Wilson was very efficient on the day, but it was the Seattle defense that allowed the Hawks to sneak out of Carolina with the win.

When evaluating Wilson’s first week, the second year quarterback day can be described as efficient, but not mind-blowing. One are area that was a disappointment for fantasy owners was Wilson’s rushing totals. He rushed 5 times gaining only 7 yards and left fantasy owners with a pedestrian 15 fantasy points.

With such high expectations, Wilson left fantasy owners flat during Week 1 and Week 2 doesn’t look any better as the Seahawks welcome the 49ers into town. Wilson will square off against a top five San Francisco defense that likes to pressure the quarterback.

While the 49ers just gave up 333 passing yards and 3 scores to Packers’ QB, Aaron Rodgers, Wilson owners shouldn’t expect similar results. Expect the defenses to dominate this week 2 matchup as Wilson is highly unlikely to crack the 300-yard mark. Fantasy owners might want to consider benching Wilson until his Week 3 matchup against the hapless Jaguars.

Cowboys Wide Receiver Dez Bryant Reaching for the Stars

Dez Bryant, the Dallas Cowboys most talented receiver, should be on all fantasy radars as a top 3 wideout for the upcoming 2013 season.

Bryant’s 2012 season was nothing short of spectacular when he wasn’t dealing with health issues, personal distractions or legal problems. Bryant believes that if he can steer clear of trouble, he could have a record breaking season.

Bryant has reportedly been the most impressive player in the Cowboys OTAs and mini camp, but that’s hardly surprising coming from a player who finished the 2012 season with almost 1,400 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett has had nothing but praise for Bryant, saying that his receiver had “found himself” during the offseason. One of things Bryant is focussing on is his explosiveness off of the line of scrimmage.

Bryant has buckled down on his training, stayed out of trouble and even gotten some advice from NBA legend, Michael Jordan. Bryant, who signed a three-year deal with the Jordan Brand, says he received just one piece of advice form MJ – “Stay out of trouble.”

However, it will take much more than a positive attitude for Bryant to reach his stratospheric and perhaps unrealistic goal of a 2,500 receiving yards season. There’s never even been a 2,000 yard receiver, although Calvin Johnson came close last year with his record breaking season total of 1,964 yards.

Bryant has the talent to set records, but his injury issues and lack of maturity will make his goals that much more difficult to reach.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Determined to Play With Fractured Finger

WR – Dez Bryant –

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant’s Week 15 status remains uncertain as he deals with a fractured left index finger.

Bryant was evaluated by a hand specialist on Wednesday and was told that he needed surgery to repair his damaged finger. Against doctor’s orders, he’s decided to postpone surgery and try and finish the season.

Bryant told the press, “The only thing y’all need to know is that I’m playing.”

Bryant has earned his paycheck this season racking up 1,028 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns, 7 of which he scored in the last 5 games.

It’s starting to look like a game-time decision on whether or not Bryant will be able to be a full participant in Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh. His confidence in his ability to play through pain, although admirable, may prove to do the Cowboys more harm than good.

Even if Bryant does play, expect a fall off in productivity as his injury may prevent him from being able to catch the ball effectively.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Will Start Week 7

WR – Dez Bryant –

A week after shredding the Baltimore defense for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns, Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is back in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Bryant was a late addition to Friday’s injury report because of a chronic groin problem. This weekend there was even speculation that Bryant’s situation might turn into a game-time decision.

Bryant owners can relax now, the Cowboy’s receiver will start today against a very patchy Carolina Panthers pass defense and could have another monster day.
