Will Roddy White Play Week 9 – Who Knows?

After the loss of two of the most dynamic receivers in the league, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons playoff chances have mostly been wiped away. But there may be hope yet as wide receiver Roddy White made huge strides last week.

Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith revealed that after missing the last two weeks with hamstring and ankle injuries, White has finally started running.

Smith then went on to announce, “Roddy is going to continue to work. It’s up to the doctors when he returns.”

White is still heavily questionable for this upcoming weekend’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers, but the Falcons can use all of the help they can get. As the majority of the league comes to its half way point, the Matt Ryan led Falcons are a disappointing 2-5, 3rd in their division and 12th in the NFC.

A win this weekend against the Panthers defense without Roddy White will be an uphill battle as Carolina ranks 10th in passing yards allowed and 2nd in rushing yards allowed.

Injury Plagued Season Drags on for Steven Jackson Fantasy Owners

Coming out of their Week 6 bye, the Atlanta Falcons and head coach Mike Smith were hopeful that they would be getting back MIA running back Steven Jackson to help turn around a disappointing season. However, as the week continues, Jackson is still being held of practice and his status for Week 7 is currently up in the air.

Jackson has not been able to play since Week 2 when he suffered a hamstring injury. At the time, the injury was not thought to be serious enough to cost him more than a couple of weeks, but the injury is now frustrating the team as well as Jackson himself. Jackson had always been a reliable back, but may now miss his fourth straight week of action.

While it’s still pretty early in the week, it is troubling to see Jackson remain on the sideline when many thought he would be ready to go by now. The coming days will be telling about whether or not Jackson will be ready for Week 7, but the initial prognosis this week is not good.

If Jackson is unable to play, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will continue to carry the load for the Falcons.

For Jackson fantasy owners, this news is nothing new and has become a cruel joke throughout the season. With the lack of depth at the running back position this year, Jackson’s injury has most likely been a major blow to many owners who drafted Jackson as their second back. With one more week of rest, Jackson may finally see the field again come Week 8.

Falcons Roddy White Still Missing Practice

Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White missed practice again with a high ankle sprain that has been plaguing him for quite some time.

White is still fully expected to play this week at home against the Rams, but there’s no way to know how many snaps the coaching staff will allow him to take.

He was fully hobbled during Week 1 when he recorded only two catches for 19 yards against a patchwork Saints pass defense.

Head coach Mike Smith says White will play, but seems concerned about how effective the 31-year-old receiver can be with his injury.

The Rams gave up a lot of points against Larry Fitzgerald last week, but White is still a shaky start for Week 2.

Roddy White Ready to Roll for Season Opener

Pro Bowl wide receiver Roddy White eased the minds of the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff and fantasy owners alike making it clear that he will be on the field during Sunday’s season opener against the New Orleans Saints.

White is officially listed as questionable, but he played through that designation several times last season. In 8 seasons in the league, he’s never missed a game.

White was sidelined for the team’s final two preseason games after spraining his right ankle during the team’s second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith said, “Since we’ve been here he is undoubtedly the toughest player on our team,” Smith said Thursday following practice. “There have been times he’s had to fight through things to get there on the field and I don’t know if there’s anyone quite like him on our roster.”

During the 2012 season, White racked up 92 receptions for 1,351 yards and seven touchdowns.

Fantasy owners should consider White a marquee option in all formats, despite his ailing ankle. He is as consistent as any receiver in the league, and will see plenty of targets in Atlanta’s air-it-out offense.
