Colts Coby Fleener Sustains Another Concussion

The Indianapolis Colts up and coming tight end Coby Fleener was diagnosed with a concussion Tuesday, and will be held out of practice as a part of the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Couple this setback with Dwayne Allen’s foot injury and the Colts are left without both starting tight ends for this Sunday’s preseason game with the Giants. Coach Chuck Pagano did not specify when Fleener may have suffered the concussion, but it might have happened last week against the Bills.

Fleener now has a history of head injuries dating back to 2011 at Stanford. Last year during his rookie campaign, Fleener sustained another concussion heading into a bye week. In today’s NFL and with what science has determined about head injuries, the league will definitely keep a close eye on Fleener’s health.

Despite this week’s injury, Fleener has been excelling in training camp and has very high expectations this season with quarterback Andrew Luck. His combination of size, speed, and athleticism poses a difficult matchup for opponents. Coach Pagano even predicted that Fleener would double his reception total of 26 in 2012. Assuming he can keep his head up and healthy, Fleener might become a major component in the Colts passing attack this season.

Kansas City Chiefs Select Eric Fisher with the First Pick in the Draft

Eric Fisher –

Position: OT

Height / Weight:  6’7 / 305 pounds

2012 Stats: 13 sacks allowed

Combine Stats: 20 yard shuttle time: 4.44 seconds. Broad jump: 116 inches

Analysis: Pretty obvious pick here. Kansas City clearly needs help protecting their quarterback. They allowed 40 sacks in 2012 and will use Fisher’s size and agility to keep Alex Smith comfortable in the pocket.

Since finishing 2 and 14, the Kansas City has been one of the busiest teams during the offseason. After hiring Andy Reid, finding a new quarterback and resigning the team’s best receiver, the Chiefs have added another much needed piece to the puzzle by signing wideout Donnie Avery.

Last season with the Indianapolis Colts, Avery caught a career high 60 passes while accumulating 781 yards and 3 touchdowns playing with Reggie Wayne. Now Avery will be lining up on the opposite side of the field from Dwayne Bowe and Reid has to be excited by this potential one-two receiving punch.

Avery will now be embedded into a pass-happy Andy Reid offense with the Chiefs, where he should surpass his fantasy performance from last year and be viewed as a legitimate number 2/3 wide receiver.

Chiefs Hold on to Dwayne Bowe

The 2013 Kansas City Chiefs are going to look very different than the team that went 2-14 this past season. With Andy Reid and Alex Smith pairing up, expect a bit more offensive success than the collective combo of Crennel, Cassel and Quinn who put up a staggering eight (yes, eight) measly passing touchdowns in 2012.

Dwayne Bowe caught three of those touchdowns in thirteen games for the Chiefs and was generally perceived as an underachiever for the year.

That said, with a Super Bowl veteran head coach and a proven quarterback on a run-first style offense (remember, Jamal Charles), D-Bowe is looking to put up a lot more points for his team in 2013, which is why the Chiefs just signed him to a 5-year deal worth $56 Million.

Fantasy owners will want to keep this in mind as they start looking for WR2’s on draft day. If Bowe stays healthy, expect his production to increase dramatically for the new-look Chiefs.
