Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been cleared to start training camp next month. Jones-Drew underwent season-ending Lisfranc surgery last year, but is convinced that he will be ready to play week 1. He told the Florida Times-Union that “the foot feels great” on Monday. He will continue to rehab and is on track be finished before training camp starts.
There was also a concern about Maurice Jones-Drew because of an off-field legal issue. That was cleared up on on Tuesday when it was announced that Jones-Drew won’t be charged for his involvement in a fight with a security guard.
The Jaguars running back had his breakout season in 2009 with over 1,300 yards on the ground and 15 touchdowns. During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, he continued his assault on rushing defenses around the league. Although he rushed for more than 1,600 yards in 2011, he only appeared in 6 games during the 2012 season before the foot injury.
MJD is entering his 8th season as a Jaguar and they will need him to carry the load for the offense. The Jags are still working out their quarterback and wide receiver positions, which could lead to a big year for Jones-Drew if he comes back at 100%.
